Military records prove the lie

Human smuggler claimed he served three tours in Iraq

Scotty Kamakahohie White was sentenced Tuesday (June 2) to 30 months in federal prison. He had earlier been convicted in federal court for smuggling an undocumented foreign national into the United States.

At his initial hearing in April, White claimed to have served with the United States Army from 2001 to 2006 and to have received an honorable discharge at the rank of sergeant after three tours of duty in Iraq. Judge Jeffrey T. Miller said that his honorable service in the U.S. military service would be a major consideration in his favor at sentencing.

So the court took a break to investigate. The finding: White had served less than ten months in the military, not six years. He had not been involved in combat operations and had been discharged as a private E-1, not a sergeant.

White admitted that he had gone AWOL and been booted out of the Army without setting foot in Iraq. Judge Miller gave him the 30 months.
