Better than Disneyland, man

For the second a day in a row, a little after high noon on January 25, San Diego lifeguards and fire rescue personnel rescued a surfer at Sunset Cliffs.

Moderately large surf (over head high) and high tides make exiting the water a challenging endeavor most everywhere at the cliffs, especially at the popular surf break known as Osprey.

While speaking to the media, lifeguards said that "Osprey is one of the easier locations to access the surf here but expert knowledge and good timing are key to getting back out."

A witness reported that today's victim was washed off the rock shelf as he was exiting the water; he was pushed back into the cove and over some rip-rap boulders. His board was broken on the rocks and he was bleeding from several places.

Lifeguards used their "cherry picker" hoist to lift the surfer (and his pieces of board) to safety. He was then treated by paramedics to ascertain the extent of his injuries.
