A most excellent bass

Apparently, there is still a lot of water in the 64-66 degree range up there, the warmest being on the 432 spot due south of Tanner and west of the Mushroom. Predicted light winds and long-period 6' seas should allow for some glassy, very fishable conditions. With the U.S. Bluefin limit at ten fish until February and positive reports, it should be worth getting out there if you can. Even if the Tuna don't show, those banks hold some impressive Rockfish, Sheephead and Yellowtail.

Gotta love the weather! The San Diego Bay bass fishing has been excellent and should bode well for the coming tournament. The Spotties are holding mostly in the 10-20' range and hitting well in the current, while the bigger Sand Bass are coming from the channel between 30-60'. Halibut are hitting in the slacks, in holes and off the edges.

Even with a little cooling and rain coming, the area lakes should remain productive for the stocked Trout, Bass and Sunfish. Caught this little guy on the fly-lined 'crawler in 85 degree sunshine while hoping my friends and family in the rest of the U.S. were staying warm and safe in the frigid weather gripping the majority of the nation. 350+ fishable days a year almost makes a feller feel guilty. Almost.

The Tribute is planning on heading to Cortez and Tanner Banks area this weekend targeting Tuna instead of their normal Colinett Rockcod/ Yellowtail 1.5 day winter run. I expect to see a few more boats from the landings in SoCal to make the trip.
