Wednesday 23
Gilbert Castellanos has two gigs at one venue, Panama 66 (1450 El Prado), where he first hosts the Young Lions Series featuring Maya Burn at 6 p.m. Next up is the jam session, which he leads from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. All ages, no cover.

Thursday 24
Peter Sprague & Friends host their annual Christmas Party at the Del Mar Amphitheater (1540 Camino Del Mar) featuring a cast of dozens from 1 to 4 p.m. It’s Free!… The Steph Johnson Trio with Rob Thorsen and Fernando Gomez plays Rancho Valencia (5921 Valencia Circle) from 6 to 9 p.m. See venue website for reservations/pricing.

The Matt Smith Neu Jazz Trio with Ed Kornhauser and Mack Leighton host the jam session at 98 Bottles from 2:30 to 5 p.m. 21+, no cover... The Paul Keeling/Rob Thorsen Duo play Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) from 8 p.m. $15 at the door… The Danny Green Trio with Justin Grinnell and Julien Cantelm play Croce’s Park West (2760 Fifth Avenue) at 6 p.m. for a $10 cover.
