Seasonal retail gigs push unemployment rate down below 5%

San Diego County's unemployment rate dropped to 4.8 percent in November, according to the state's Employment Development Department. That rate was down from a revised 5 percent in October and 6 percent a year earlier.

Between October and November, the county added 11,000 jobs. Almost half of them, 5400, were in retailing, a seasonal phenomenon tied to Christmas sales.

The county added 37,800 jobs from a year ago, with health care and social services pacing the gain with 8600 jobs.
