Drive-by in Lemon Grove

Bullet holes in stucco; near-victims no help to investigators

Sheriff's deputies in Lemon Grove are searching for leads in an attempted drive-by shooting on yesterday afternoon (Oct. 26) that left neighbors terrified and the presumptive victims tight-lipped.

Deputies were called to the 3600 block of Olive Street shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. A neighbor had called to report that two black males in a red compact car who had pulled up to a nearby residence were shouting what seemed to be gang-related taunts; they reportedly fired several shots at the home.

Several other block residents confirmed the frightened neighbor's story, and several shell casings and a single bullet were recovered from the scene. None of the bullets penetrated the home's interior walls, though one bullet hole was found in the stucco just below a front window.

The residents of the home were mostly uncooperative with detectives' questioning, and an investigation is ongoing.
