Bad news for the wheeled and hobbled

San Diego ranks a disappointing 98th of 150 metro areas as a good location for those with disabilities, according to WalletHub, an organization that puts together economic and demographic information on states and metro areas.

Cities were ranked for employment and poverty rate of those with disabilities; cost of doctor visits; job openings for those with disabilities, health insurance and in-home service costs, number of special education teachers for those with disabilities, and several other factors including housing affordability and cost of living. Those last two factors would have dragged down San Diego.

Interesting point is that of the five best cities for people with disabilities, three are in Arizona (Peoria, Scottsdale, and Chandler). Many places in that state are familiar with accommodating the elderly. But of the worst five cities, two are in Nevada (Las Vegas and North Las Vegas) and two in Florida (Hialeah and Miami). Those two states also cater to older people who are more likely to have disabilities.
