Wash off your filthy richness at this home’s lagoon or pool

This week’s property is situated on the Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad.

Built in 2009, the residence at 4485 Adams Street features six bedrooms (five with attached private baths) and eight baths in all, with a den and recreation room also included in the home’s 5800 square feet of indoor living area. A four-car garage and a curving driveway provide off-street parking for a dozen or more cars.

Interior upgrades include Brazilian hardwood flooring, stainless-steel railings, and mahogany doors and window frames. The main kitchen also features mahogany cabinetry, along with limestone and granite counters, a professional-grade range and two Sub-Zero refrigerators. A wraparound deck on the second level is accessible from the kitchen, great room, or master bedroom. Most rooms in the house are highlighted by views of the lagoon.

Guest suites and a second kitchen on the lower level lead to a “resort style pool and spa” with extensive use of ledger stone and stonework that includes a split-rock waterfall into the pool.

While the area surrounding the pool and several accompanying seating areas is landscaped using drought-resistant flora adapted to San Diego’s climate, the big draw is the private white sandy beach, which consumes a majority of the backyard.

According to marketing materials for the property, the beach “allows for easy and direct access to: paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, jet skiing, boating, tubing, sailing, wake boarding, kite surfing, and wind surfing.” Indeed, the Carlsbad Stand Up Paddle Board Club is next door, and the property’s only neighbor is the vacant lot next door.

The beach has palapa shade structures and an equipment storage shed immediately adjacent; an outdoor sound system is connected to the pool deck and other outdoor areas.

Public records indicate the home’s owners are Glen and Jill Steward. A LinkedIn profile indicates Mrs. Steward is the owner of the design firm Jill Jenee Interiors, though a website for that business redirects to a skin-care boutique, also apparently run by Steward.

Mr. Steward formerly operated Steward Financial, a Carlsbad-based mortgage lender that went belly up in 2007, in the midst of the housing crash. It appears the company has since resurfaced under a slightly modified name, though a Twitter account supposedly affiliated with the new company (its only online presence) links to a Colorado-based mortgage broker whose primary phone number has a North County 760 area code.

Records indicate that the property last sold for $440,000 in 2002, well before the home was built. The property has been listed for sale once since then, with a $4,995,000 asking price failing to attract a buyer in 2011.

The home was listed again in mid-May. The sellers now say they’ll entertain offers between $4,750,000 and $5,250,000.
