La Mesa fire station reports bathing man and robbery

A Bonita man was arrested on Monday night, July 28, after a couple of foiled burglary attempts, beginning at La Mesa Fire Station 12 on the 8800 block of Dallas Street.

Firefighters from Station 12 contacted La Mesa police on Monday afternoon after they witnessed 29-year-old Leu Brent Edwards bathing behind the station; he subsequently was seen wearing clothes that had been taken from firefighters' their personal vehicles, which were parked in a secured area within the station.

When police arrived, the man identified as Edwards fled the scene into the neighborhood. Finding an open garage, he allegedly took refuge and began pilfering the valuables inside.

Air support from the San Diego Police Department was called in, and officers on the ground received a tip from a resident responding to suspect descriptions announced from a police helicopter. A search of a resident's backyard led to the discovery of Edwards, who was hiding under a parked car.

Items from two burglarized cars and the garage were recovered. Edwards faces charges of both vehicular and residential burglary.
