Movoto.com, a real estate research outfit, has culled 2010 census data to rank the 50 snobbiest small cities (population 45,000 to 65,000). What counts is highest median household income, highest median home values, largest percentage of population with college degrees, plus having art galleries, private schools, and performing-arts locales aplenty; having the fewest fast-food restaurants is a plus.

Palo Alto earned the snobbiest title; Encinitas came in eighth, lifted by high home prices and plentiful performing-arts facilities and art galleries. Poway ranked 37th, lifted by high home prices and household incomes.
