U-T sued for copyright infringement

Los Angeles-based BWP Media USA, doing business as Pacific Coast News, filed suit yesterday (July 24) in Los Angeles federal court, claiming the U-T has used copyrighted celebrity photographs on its websites without permission. BWP Media claims the photographs are readily identifiable as copyright-protected.

However, there are questions about BWP. The intellectual property law firm of Milord & Associates in L.A. asks in the headline of a report, "Is BWP Media the New Photo Copyright Infringement Troll?" The law firm says BWP has recently filed more than 50 copyright infringement lawsuits against numerous websites. The law firm goes on to criticize a suit BWP filed against another company.
