San Diego County prices are now only 11.9 percent below the peak of the 2006 bubble year, and if they keep climbing at the current rate (no sure thing), they will recover the bubble peak in the first quarter of 2016.

Of 35 metro areas, only three have higher median home values than San Diego: San Jose ($815,000), San Francisco ($692,100), and Los Angeles ($539,800).

Texas is trying to get California companies to move there. Here are median home prices in that state: Dallas-Fort Worth ($145,500), Houston ($146,700), and Austin ($211,700).
