Pistol-packing grandma?

Legal proceedings against a 63-year-old woman accused of reloading her five-shot revolver twice to finish killing her son-in-law were put on hold today, July 8.

The attorney for Cynthia Kaye Cdebaca asked for the case to be “suspended” so that her client’s mental competency can be evaluated.

The defendant appeared happy in court and waved cheerfully to the judge and bailiffs. She looked around the courtroom smiling broadly at people — it appeared she was not wearing teeth.

A prosecutor has claimed that Cdebaca planned ahead and bought the gun a week prior to killing her 53-year-old son-in-law, Geoward Eustaquio on February 11 of this year, which is the accused woman's birthday.

The alleged murder occurred at 602 Braemar Terrace, where Cdebaca lived with her daughter’s family in an upscale, gated community in Fallbrook. Cdebaca’s daughter and two grandchildren had left the home by 8 a.m., before the shooting started, the prosecutor said.

The determined granny emptied her gun three times, going to a car parked in the driveway for ammunition to reload twice, prosecutor Tracy Prior stated at an earlier hearing.

The deceased had multiple gunshot wounds; seven bullets were recovered from his body, and more were found after having exited his body, according to the prosecutor.

When sheriff’s deputies later found Cdebaca at her favorite coffee shop, she reportedly complained that her son-in-law did not work and that he made her daughter work.

The defendant pleads not guilty to first-degree murder and is held in lieu of $5 million bail by the San Diego County Sheriff.
