Fishing around the edges of the storm

Weekly Fishing Report

½ Day: The boats that were able to fish around the edges of the storm found good Rockfish, Sheephead and Lingcod on the local kelp beds off Point Loma and La Jolla with a few Yellowtail and White Seabass in the mix. The twilight Lobster hoop-netters have been getting good numbers on the bugs, with one out of ten raised being legal.

¾ Day: Anglers making it to the Coronado Islands or to the county line area up north are still getting some Yellowtail along with a mixed sack-full of Rockfish, Bocaccio, Sand and Calico Bass, Lingcod and Sheephead.

1 Day to 2.5 Day: Offshore boats fishing within 120 miles of Point Loma have been reporting good action on Yellowfin and Skipjack Tuna with a handful of Bluefin Tuna. They are also getting big Rockfish and Sheephead on the high spots at Tanner and Cortez Banks.

Long-range: The bite at the Hurricane Bank has been slow but steady on the big Yellowfin Tuna, especially in the gray hours. As the boats make their way back up the line towards San Diego they are picking some nice Wahoo to 70 pounds on the troll off of Mag Bay and Alijos Rocks

Freshwater: The local lakes are a little stirred up from the rain, but the trout have been stocked in most and with the water cooling a bit are starting to bite. The trout plants have also triggered the Bass and Catfish, with some nice catches of both being reported.
