Ode to the wahoo

Well, looks like the only thing to talk about for fishing yesterday, other than a few brave, soggy anglers catching Trout, is Baja.

The Excel is on it's way up the line, trolling as they go, as they conclude their 16 Day trip. They have scored some big *Wahoo on the high spots to add to the tonnage of fresh Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo and Dorado in the hold. Looks like they're still on track to arrive in San

Diego at 8 am Sunday.

The Ensenada and San Quintin areas are still producing good Yellowtail, Lingcod and Rockfish.

The Mag Bay and Todos Santos areas are producing large Yellowfin Tuna, with some Striped Marlin, Dorado and Wahoo mixed in.

There are lots of schoolie-sized Yellowfin with a few toads in the mix in the Cabo area. White Skipjack, also called 'White Tuna' are being caught. These tasty fish usually aren't found north of the Baja tip. They are good fighters and run about an average of 15 pounds.

There are some huge Sierra running around the La Paz area, it's that time of year, but they’re still getting some nice Wahoo, Billfish and Dorado, with a few Rooster Fish here and there off the sandy points when the wind isn't blowing. When it's too windy to fish outside,

inshore fish like Sierra, Pargo and Cabrilla are biting well in the lee.

• and I’ll be long, long, gone…. in just a second or two!”
