Stay weird, Ocean Beach

While most coastal communities have a defined beachy-boho coastal style, Ocean Beach has always been one-of-a-kind. Known mostly for its peace-and-love, hippie vibe, OB is one of the few San Diego communities where you will find street musicians, surfers, rockabilly types, dreadlocked hippies, bikers, and punks all within a one block radius of one another.

On the boardwalk I found look-alike best friends, Tori Dickerhoff and Jordan Cassidy. Both girls live in Santee but visit OB often. “I wish I lived here,” said Cassidy

“We come out here about once a week,” says Dickerhoff.

Both Dickerhoff and Cassidy wore Target bikinis. The girls like to shop in Pacific Beach.

Mileage is their favorite Boutique.

“Everyone asks if we are twins. I dyed my hair red a few months ago,” says Dickerhoff.

“I just did mine a few days ago,” adds Cassidy.

Further down the boardwalk I found gothically attired Bella Ham. The 18-year-old Cuyamaca College student wore American Apparel shoes, an Urban Outfitters jersey, and a bikini top purchased in Spain.

‘Spain was really cool. I want go back,” said Ham of her recent trip.

In five years, Ham, who is an inspiring artist, would like to be working in the film industry.

On Bacon Street I ran into a woman who goes by the name Cherry Cadillac Deville. She was walking down the street carrying a vase of flowers in one arm and a vintage, one-man-band instrument in the other. Deville works at the vintage-inspired boutique Temptress, located on Bacon Street, and also at Pinup Culture in Escondido.

Deville wore a vintage dress paired with vintage cowboy boots. When asked if she could raid anyone’s closet, living or dead, she didn't hesitate to say, “Edith Head, the costume designer from My Fair Lady.”
