Carlsbad hash-oil processor processed in Vista

A Carlsbad man was arrested on April 22 after police found ten empty butane cans in the trash container from his home.

Authorities had gotten a tip that Daniel Clark Steadman, 32, was cooking hashish oil in a home at 3700 Azimuth Place in Carlsbad.

Experts say that using flammable solvents to extract the potent concentrate from marijuana is “extremely dangerous” because fumes can concentrate in enclosed rooms and then accidentally ignite.

Local police and Drug Enforcement Agency personnel obtained a search warrant to enter the home this week.

On Tuesday, officers collected marijuana, a ledger book, a scale, a Mastercool compressor, a ProVac vacuum chamber, a Rival hot plate, glass pipes and Pyrex dish, hash oil extract, and hash powder.

Steadman reportedly moved to California from Gilbert, Arizona, in January of this year. He had worked for a company called Total Holistic Care of Mesa, Arizona (THC of AZ) as a vendor and deliveryman, according to police.

Police say Steadman was arrested in Scottsdale for drug possession in 2001; that charge was dismissed. Last summer he was arrested in Gilbert on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale.

Steadman was held in the Vista jail in lieu of $100,000 bail until his arraignment in San Diego’s North County Superior courthouse on April 24.
