Balboa Theatre named one of world's 15 best

CNN Travel has named 15 of the world's most spectacular theaters. On the list is San Diego's Balboa Theatre, built in 1924. The Balboa fell into disrepair, and in 1959 it was set to be demolished. Restoration began in 2002.

"After a $26 million renovation, this elegant vaudeville theater has been fully restored, complete with its one-of-a-kind, fully operational interior waterfalls," says Ken Stein at the League of Historic American Theaters. He adds, "If you could sum up the beauty of the City of San Diego in a single design, this would be it."

The Balboa is in good company among the top 15. Among the others are the replica of Shakespeare's Globe in London, the Salle Richelieu and Palais Gamier in Paris, and the State Theatre in Sydney.
