Fearless film shoot finishes up in Ocean Beach

Fearless, a musical, finished shooting in Ocean Beach on October 30. Some local denizens participated in the production — whether invited or not.

The hacky-sack man, the blonde pole-leaner, and a rowdy woman shouting outside Shades restaurant all added color to the final day of shooting.

The movie is about babes, bikinis, beaches, and tough choices about growing up. It's a tribute to the Beach Blanket Bingo-styled movies of the 1960s, the producer has said.

The movie is the latest project of Angelic Pictures, Mark Maine's San Diego-based film company, which last month finished shooting La Migra at the U.S.-Mexico border.

A throng of beach-lovin' locals, tourists, and participants watched the filming with the pier as a backdrop. It wasn't a consequential scene, but all scenes have to be handled professionally, said Rickey Phatsenhann, a local actor who had a part in the movie.

"It ruins everything if everyone is staring at the actors," he said. "And you never want to have people in bright colors like red or yellow in the background."

This is Phatsenhann's second movie with Maine. The young actor also does theater projects, including appearances at the La Jolla Playhouse and the Ocean Beach Playhouse.

Radio station Rock 105.3's Ashlee, fresh from a “Boobs, Butts & Selfies” appearance at the L.A. Playboy Mansion's Halloween party (see her selfies on the 105.3 blog), was demurely dressed  for her stroll through the scene, past the hacky-sack man

"We were supposed to shoot until Friday, but things have gone so well that we're done early," said assistant director Marcin Borkowski.
