Bike rider crashes at Santa Fe Depot

Reportedly had plastic jug labeled "vodka"

San Diego Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a call about an injured man at the Santa Fe Depot trolley platform on Saturday afternoon, October 26, at about 1:45 p.m.

An Amtrak mechanical employee called 911 after a trolley passenger told him a man riding a bicycle struck the trolley platform and hit his head when he flipped his bike.

According to Juan Alejandre, the mechanic who called emergency services, the man may have been intoxicated: a plastic half-gallon of what was labeled "vodka" fell from the rider's belongings that were attached to his bike.

An ambulance arrived a few minutes after the engine crew, and a fireman already at the scene directed paramedics to the injured man at the north end of the platform. A fireman who had been questioning the victim motioned to the paramedics to bring a cervical collar.

After being treated at the scene, the man was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
