Groundbreaking for $3.9 million park in San Marcos

The City of San Marcos is set to break ground this week on a $3.9 million park and recreation complex located on 4.7 acres of land adjacent to San Marcos Elementary, along the 300 block of W. San Marcos Boulevard.

When completed, Connors Park, named after educator and 1983 San Marcos Chamber of Commerce “Woman of the Year” Mary Young Connors, will feature a lighted multi-use synthetic turf field, lighted tennis and basketball courts, shaded picnic areas, two “tot lot” playgrounds, restrooms, and a concession stand.

Funding for the construction, which will take place on land made available through a joint-use agreement with the San Marcos Unified School District, comes through 2006’s Proposition 86, a voter-approved measure billed the “Safe Drinking Water Bond Act” that also provides grant funds statewide for parks and “nature education facilities.”
