Recent big Border Patrol busts of Mexican drugs

The cross-border drug trade is in full swing, at least according to several announcements from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers on November 20.

Calexico agents had a busy weekend, reporting the seizure of more than $1.2 million worth of cocaine and methamphetamine at the Imperial Valley border crossing in the desert east of San Diego County. El Centro officers working checkpoints around the valley report seizing another $1.1 million in marijuana and cocaine between November 15 and November 18.

In San Diego, 93 pounds of heroin, valued at $1.3 million, were intercepted Tuesday, November 19, at the San Ysidro port of entry. Hours later, a semi truck hauling a load of Mexican-grown squash was caught with an additional cargo of 369 pounds of marijuana.

In an unrelated incident, a truckload of squash traveling through the Nogales, Arizona, point of entry the next day was found to contain over 20,000 pounds of marijuana, setting a new record for the largest single drug seizure at a border crossing.
