The Most Happy Fella by Frank Loesser may not officially be an opera but it was staged in 2006 by the now-decaying corpse that was once New York City Opera.

The still-young and alive Point Loma Opera Theater, PLOT, is in the middle of a run of performances of The Most Happy Fella.

PLOT is a student organization on the campus of Point Loma Nazarene University. Students find the funding, hire a director, hold auditions and put on a high quality show.

If The Most Happy Fella isn’t an opera, it is a stunningly great musical. If you don’t think you know Frank Loesser’s music then you’re wrong. He wrote How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Don’t know it?

How about Guys and Dolls? Never heard of it?

Okay, he also wrote Baby, It’s Cold Outside.

There are two performances remaining, Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th. Both shows are at 7:30 pm at The Cooper Music Center.
