Who wants to run the 2014 Boston Marathon

A severely swollen right knee is affecting my ambition to qualify for Boston at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. The Rock ‘n’ Roll is just about a month away and it is rapidly becoming a high-priced training run for me.

Needless to say that I and tens-of-thousands of other runners consider 2014 to be THE year to run the Boston Marathon.

In the days after the bombing, Google searches for Boston Qualifying Times spiked dramatically.

Boston is a unique marathon in that it is designed to be about running first instead of participation. The Boston Athletic Association publishes the qualifying times and the dates by which they must occur.

In 2013 there were 27,000 runners. Of those 27,000 there were 22,000 who qualified with a time at a previous marathon. The remaining 5,000 were people who raised a “substantial” amount of money for the B.A.A.’s charity partners.

What are the qualifying times? See the Website.

In 2013 the registrants who beat their age group’s qualifying time by 20 minutes or more were registered first.

It’s time to see how great we can be.
