Car hits motorcyclist on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard

Hill makes for problem intersection

Driving back from my friend's house on the south side of Ocean Beach on Saturday night, March 23, I came across a police barricade involving seven police cars. They were rerouting traffic as they did an accident investigation.

It seems a car going west on Coronado Avenue was crossing Sunset Cliffs Boulevard when it crashed into a man on a motorcycle going south on Sunset Cliffs.

I spoke with officer Brad Green of the SDPD and he told me that the motorcyclist was taken away by ambulance with a lower leg fracture; the driver of the car was not injured. When I asked Green why there were so many police cars there, he said anytime there is a serious injury in a traffic accident, they have to lock down the scene and do an investigation.

When I asked if there are a lot of accidents on Sunset Cliffs, he said the hill on Sunset Cliffs between Santa Cruz and Coronado avenues has posed a problem because you cannot see what is coming up over the hill; it's a big blind spot.

I used to live in the immediate vicinity and it was always scary coming out of the alley onto Sunset Cliffs, as I could not tell when a car would be coming up over that hill. On March 22, the Reader reported an accident at almost the same spot.
