CSI Ocean Beach slaps on the paint, covers graffiti

Volunteers showed up to a table set up near the seawall at the foot of Newport Avenue in O.B. on June 12 to sign up and help out a new group trying to make a difference in the community.

CSI OB, which stands for Clean Streets Initiative, sponsored by the OB Crime Watch group, solicited volunteers to do graffiti and beach cleanup. They painted over graffiti on the walls facing the ocean from just south of the pier to Santa Cruz Avenue.

Greg Crowley, chairman for the CSI group, led about six people out to the area and covered up the tagging. The group shared the event on social media sites and posted flyers in some of the local merchants’ windows.

Supplies were loaned from Park and Recreation staff representative Michael Ruiz. He provided paint, brushes, rollers, pans, and grabbers and buckets for trash pickup.

The group has a Facebook page and meets on the second Monday of every month at the Ocean Beach Women's Club at 2160 Bacon Street.
