Daylong drunk in Ocean Beach

Four calls to police result in man’s arrest

As I was bicycling away from the OB Farmers’ Market to catch the sunset on July 17, I came upon a man named Eric, who was being arrested. He was obviously inebriated and was being verbally abusive to the police officers who kept asking him to sit down and calm down. He wasn't complying, so he was then handcuffed.

The whole time he was telling the officers that he didn't like what they do and was asking if it was illegal to be drunk. They had to tell him that, yes, it was illegal to be drunk in public.

Standing next to me was a friend of his, named Kenneth, who said Eric was staying with him and was visiting from Minnesota. He stated that Eric was kicked out of every bar on Newport Avenue that day for trying to start fights with everyone. His family had just paid for him to go through rehab. Police officer J. Stadler said four people had called in to complain about Eric.
