The Green Gathering: an Earth Day event in Bonsall

4/20 festival pays tribute to Jah herb with music, yoga, tattoos, and sweet, sweet medication

While Colorado figures out how to cash in on legal weed with 420-friendly tours and potentially hefty taxation, lawmakers are writing legislation aimed at protecting pro-marijuana states from federal prosecution.

In the meantime, Oregon has been ordered to hand over medical Mary Jane records and a Ramona couple faces up to six years in prison following a raid by federal and state narcotics agents on their home medical grow.

Today, local and federal raids have brought San Diego’s MMJ scene to a near-standstill (the recent DEA crackdown on delivery services was a serious blow to remaining dispensaries), but a proposed ordinance would allow for up to 100 new dispensaries to open in San Diego, one of the first cities in the nation to embrace medicinal moon cabbage.

Pushing forward for safe access, Mayor Bob Filner has declared an end to San Diego’s war on marijuana by ordering local authorities to stop targeting dispensaries.

In celebration of these victories (how big or small they truly are has yet to be seen), the The Green Gathering will assemble on — when else? — Saturday, April 20, to burn one down in the name of all things Jahsome.

If the photos they’ve been posting on their Facebook wall aren’t enough to draw you in, then maybe the “lavish medication tent,” all-day yoga, tattoos from the Body Art Bus, fire dancers, and on-site camping at the undisclosed Bonsall location will pique your interest.

Or how about live music from ten-piece funk outfit Afrolicios, Rian Basilio & the Roosters, Thicker Than Thieves, Giant Peach, and Tribe of Kings residents DJ Unite and DJ Dash Eye?

The all-day event starts at noon with doors opening at 11 and music from 2 to midnight. Presale $32 / door $42 / camping $10.
