The El Cajon Brewing Company closed its doors as of April 1

In spite of subsidies and loans

Despite the best efforts of many in the city of El Cajon and others to help the struggling business stay afloat, the brewing company folded. The Craft Brewing Business website noted "to get off the ground, the Brewery was partially funded by the city of El Cajon and the state of California, which provided $600,000 in loans to El Cajon Brewing."

The family-owned business and property owner Howard Fisher attempted to renegotiate lease terms to help bring the business current. Finally, the brewery filed for bankruptcy protection when the rent and a business loan from the City of El Cajon's Redevelopment Agency went unpaid.

As of now, it looks as though the city of El Cajon will be looking for a new brewery/restaurant to take over the location, which East County Magazine calls "prime real estate downtown at the corner of Magnolia and Main Streets."
