Stabbing and Groping in Ocean Beach

A stabbing victim was pulled from the crowd in the beer garden at the Ocean Beach Oktoberfest on Friday evening, just 30 minutes before the first “Citizens’ Patrol” was launched.

The Citizens' Patrol was organized this week to stave off the possibility of another sex crime being perpetrated. Police say there have been seven cases of a peeping tom and three sexually motivated attacks in the past couple months. The patrol was organized by local residents and Tim Nolan of Tower Two Café.

Two groups, consisting of three people each, were leaving to start the first patrol from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. when someone was stabbed in the crowd at the beer garden at the end of Newport Avenue at around 8:30 p.m.

In another report, one of the citizens of a patrol unit said a friend of hers had been groped at around the same time the stabbing occurred; the perpetrator was a man on a bike on West Point Loma Boulevard. Her friend said she waited over 45 minutes for police to arrive after reporting it.

There have been claims by women that some of them are no longer reporting assaults to the police because they have not done enough to assist them.
