San Diego Police Help Mom in Ocean Beach

Several San Diego police officers arrived at Azucar bakery/café on Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach on October 9 at around noon. Two patrol cars parked in the adjacent gas-station parking lot; two more police cars were in front of the popular Cuban business. Neighbors and customers in the area feared the worst. Some thought a robbery had occurred.

As patrons gathered outside while police investigated, it was learned that the activity was prompted by a lady customer of Azucar wanting to speak to police about problems with her daughter. According to an Azucar employee, the woman, who lives up the street, "specifically requested the police meet her [here].... The customer did not want to upset her daughter by having the officers come directly to her home."
