Three-Day Walkers Arrive in Ocean Beach

All the whooping and hollering and horn honking started early on Saturday morning, November 17, in Ocean Beach, as approximately 3500 people came through the community as part of a three-day walk to benefit the Susan G. Komen cancer-research organization.

Participants, mostly women dressed in pink boas, pink tutus, and pink feathered hats, were treated to water stations set up along the way by residents who cheered the walkers along Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and many other streets.

The walk started on Friday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Each participant had to raise $2300 to participate in the 60-mile walk; about $240,000 will reportedly stay in San Diego for local programs.

Each day, participants walk 20 miles. At the end of the day, participants camp out at Crown Point Shores and are treated to hot showers, a dining tent, and entertainment. Closing ceremonies are on Sunday, November 18, at Petco Park.
