House fire in Ocean Beach

Birds die; dogs and woman saved

On Thursday, December 27, flames broke out in the living room of a house located on the 2300 block of Seaside Street in Ocean Beach. At least a dozen birds died in the blaze. Although a woman and dog escaped harm, another dog required oxygen and was transported by a police officer to a pet hospital.

At around 3:30 a.m., "a fire broke out in the living-room of the residence," according to a story in the OB Rag. "When firefighters arrived, they found the 46-year-old resident suffering from smoke inhalation." She was taken to a hospital for observation. The OB Rag reported damage to the structure estimated at $80,000; possessions valued at $30,000 were reportedly lost.

On December 28, a maroon-colored couch sat on the driveway, charred — perhaps the origin of the fire. One window was boarded up and other debris littered the front yard. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
