Ocean Beach Pier Jump Goes Unpunished

According to an eyewitness named Andrew, he and his girlfriend were sitting on the sand at the end of Newport Avenue at around 11 p.m. on August 25 when a young man jumped off the Ocean Beach Pier. Someone called it in, and within minutes there was a helicopter flying over with a searchlight and several police cars on the scene.

The man swam to shore, obviously unhurt and seemingly intoxicated, but was only given a ticket by police officers. Andrew said he talked to the jumper, and both were surprised he was not arrested.
