Alabama Shakes Bring Heat Lightning to House of Blues

The Alabama Shakes brought southern soul and blues to a sold-out House of Blues. The hot and sweaty crowd swayed, danced, and soaked in the soulful voice of lead singer Brittany Howard, the blues licks from guitarist Heath Fogg, and the steady bass lines of Zac Cockrell.

From the opening curtain to the final cymbal crash, Howard captivated the audience with stunning vocals and a swaggering rock ’n’ roll stage presence. At first glance, she looked like a schoolteacher, but as soon as she belted out that first note, it was as though the soul of Otis Redding had dropped from the heavens directly into the 23-year-old singer.

The Shakes grooved through songs such as "Party," "Hang Loose," and "Hold On" from their debut album, Boys & Girls. When not playing guitar, Howard stalked the stage, pumped her fist in the air, and transformed into an inspiring performer.
