On January 18, 2008, Jean Gluck, 77, and Harry Gluck, 90, were found dead in their bed in the Carlsbad home they shared with their son, Dennis Brian Gluck.

In the Vista courthouse on the morning of October 5, Dennis Brian Gluck, 46, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and admitted that he had used a machete to kill his parents.

As part of a plea deal, he is expected to be sentenced to 32 years to life in prison. Gluck was eligible for the death penalty due to the special circumstances of multiple murders.

Before he accepted the plea deal, judge Robert Kearney told the defendant that he won’t be eligible for parole for 32 years, and, “You won’t receive any good time credits.” The judge set a formal sentencing date of November 3.

Prosecutor Kelly Mok said that Gluck’s two brothers were in the courtroom when the plea deal was struck and that they approved of the deal.
