Patriot Flag Raised in Kearny Mesa

The Patriot Flag made a brief San Diego stopover this morning, March 1, on its way from Hawaii. According to project coordinator Mitch Mendler, the flag is scheduled to fly in all 50 states in 50 weeks, with a last stop at the World Trade Center site in New York City. The flag has flown in 27 states and 70 cities since September 10, 2010.

The flag, measuring 30x58 feet, waved for 30 minutes from a ladder truck at the apparatus maintenance station at the south end of Kearny Villa Road. The station employees were selected to unfurl and raise the flag to place emphasis on “all public safety personnel and to remember the work they perform behind the scenes,” according to Mendler.

This morning’s event was attended by a few individuals — mostly station staff and a couple news crews.
