Man Accused of Stabbing Mate While in Bed

A 28-year-old Escondido man is accused of stabbing his lover in the neck after an argument on Memorial Day morning, May 30.

Alexander John Twedt was arraigned this week on a single charge of attempted murder for stabbing Antonio C. (who prefers to be called Samantha) with a folding knife through the victim’s esophagus, according to prosecutor Keith Watanabe.

Watanabe said this is a domestic violence case and that Twedt and his victim had been dating for one month before the violence. The victim “is a male going through the process of becoming a female,” according to the prosecutor.

When the alleged assault occurred, the victim was reportedly in bed in the room that Twedt rents in a home on Cherry Place in Escondido. The owner of the home called 911 after she heard commotion at about 5:30 a.m., according to the prosecutor.

Twedt stabbed Antonio/Samantha after they argued about Twedt’s criminal past and methamphetamine use, according to the prosecutor. Court paperwork shows felony convictions in Nevada and North Dakota for Alexander John Twedt, plus an outstanding warrant in North Dakota.

Superior court judge Marshall Hockett ordered Twedt held on $1 million bail during the June 2 arraignment at the Vista courthouse.
