Oceanside Fugitive Dontaye Henderson Faces Extradition in St. Louis

Oceanside resident Dontaye Henderson, 28, is expected to arrive back in San Diego County next week to face charges of murder, kidnapping, and felony child abuse. Police in St. Louis, Missouri, arrested him at a Greyhound bus terminal on January 4 in connection with the shooting death of his wife, 25-year-old Tamara Henderson. Oceanside police said Dontaye Henderson was in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest.

Local police found Tamara Henderson in the couple’s Oceanside apartment on the morning of January 1 with a gunshot wound to her chest; she later died at the hospital. Dontaye Henderson was the one who phoned for medical help, at about 11:06 a.m, according to police reports. A parole officer reported that Dontaye Henderson cut off his GPS monitoring bracelet at about 11:20 a.m. Oceanside police have said “He is currently on active parole.”

Court records show that Dontaye Henderson pleaded guilty to spousal rape in San Diego County in August of 2003 and was sentenced to prison for three years. As of January 2004, he was a registered sex offender.

Henderson is expected to complete extradition from St. Louis, and arraignment is tentatively scheduled for January 26 in San Diego’s North County Courthouse.
