Bicyclist Clipped near Famosa Slough

Bike riders are commonly seen riding along in the Midway District. For those residents without cars or who wish to not leave a carbon imprint, getting around the Midway business district is as simple as jumping on a pedal-pusher.

However, riding along in the area is not without its hazards. Thursday morning, August 11th, around 10:00 a.m., a motorist turning onto the 4400 block of Famosa Blvd. near Famosa Slough clipped a bicyclist riding along the intersection in the crosswalk. The four-door late model car and the middle-aged driver immediately stopped and came to the aid of the rider who lay crumpled along the sidewalk directly in front of 4363 West Pt. Loma Blvd.

The resident of that address — a man named Chet — ran outside and saw that the driver was with the injured man and told me "medical help arrived almost immediately." The bicyclist was loaded onto an ambulance and driven away while witnesses and the shaken driver gave their statements to San Diego Police officers.
