Encinitas Bicyclist T-Bones Yellow Cab

Around 9:00 p.m, on Wednesday, September 15, a 17-year-old male bicyclist hit a moving Yellow Cab. The boy was riding southbound on Evergreen Drive in Encinitas. He ran the stop sign at the busy intersection of Santa Fe Drive and T-boned the cab's passenger side, breaking the front and passenger-side windows.

One of four sheriff's deputies that arrived on the scene said the boy was wearing dark clothing, wasn't wearing a helmet, and didn't have a bike light. “We also believe that alcohol was involved,” said an officer.

The preliminary investigation indicated the cab driver was not at fault. The boy did not have life-threatening injuries but was transported by the Encinitas Fire Department to Palomar Pomerado hospital in Escondido because Scripps Memorial Hospital's emergency room — just four blocks west of the accident — was full.
