Car Crasher Pleads for Leniency from Ocean Beach Residents

At 2:45 a.m. on September 6, a loud crash woke up residents of the 5000 block of Long Branch Avenue. Many rushed onto the street to find a light-colored SUV speeding west. A resident with a flashlight called out the license plate while others dialed 911.

Over a dozen residents were present to witness the car grind to a halt, apparently due to the crash. A young female driver exited the driver's side of the vehicle. She was told to turn off her engine and that police were on the way. She yelled to onlookers, “Can't we just redo this whole cop thing?!”

As residents chastised the driver for trying to leave the scene, she argued that she did not intend to hurt anyone. SDPD arrived within minutes, their lights reflecting upon the slight blonde who was walking away from the scene, east on Long Branch. The resident with the flashlight who had initially called out the license-plate number alerted police to her attempt to flee. Police immediately apprehended the young woman.

At least three cars were damaged, two extensively. No living beings were harmed. Tow trucks were heard for the following hour.
