Sucker Stab

The text messages that the parents of 18-year-old Tiffany began receiving on July 24 were chilling: “i think someone was stabbed,” she texted from Comic-Con shortly after 5:00 p.m. “They have locked down hall h,” “they wont let anyone out.”

San Diego police Sgt. Gary Mondesir arrived at the San Diego Convention Center within minutes to speak to the hoard of media already on the scene.

"We had an incident in Hall H during a presentation,” Mondesir said. “Two males got into a dispute and one male was stabbed in the side of the eye by another male with a pen. [The aggressor reportedly had a problem with the victim sitting too close by.] Paramedics on scene took the victim to UCSD Medical Center. The suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. There are numerous witnesses and we are taking their statements.

“The program is still going on and we are working around it. This is an extremely rare occurrence at Comic-Con. They have a mass of extremely well-behaved people who do what is asked of them.”

The Convention Center's Hall H seats 6500 people and on Saturday played host to directors and actors for such films as Resident Evil, Sucker Punch, Cowboys and Indians, Thor, Captain America, and Green Lantern.
