Bowling and Brawling

Located off the 78 Freeway in Vista, at 435 West Vista Way, is the Vista Entertainment Center, a megaplex of adult fun and games. Inside are 40 bowling lanes, an arcade room, a Karaoke machine, and a sports bar called the Turf Room. "Everything Can Happen Here," reads the center's website.

On January 28, at 11:48 p.m., a lot did happen there, but it didn't have anything to do with funs and games.

Minutes before midnight, deputies from the San Diego Sheriff's Department arrived at the North County fun zone in response to a 911 call about a large ruckus on the property.

Multiple fights were going on at the same time, read a Sheriff's Department press release. While two 26-year-old males, Tim Moy and Lucus Hayes, were duking it out in the parking lot, John Gyues and Alphonso Sorrell battled with security guards inside. According to the press release, while trading blows with the security detail, both Gyues and Sorrell were "instigating others inside the bar to fight."

Deputies were able to detain Moy and Hayes outside, arresting them for public drunkenness. However, deputies didn't have as easy a time with the other brawlers. Gyues and Sorrell focused their rage on deputies. The lawmen managed to restrain Gyues and Sorrell, but not before Sorrell forced a deputy to the ground.

"Sorrell and two other subjects then attempted to 'rush' the deputy on ground," read the press release.

After the melee, Gyues and Sorrell were arrested for public intoxication and for assaulting several peace officers. All four street fighters were booked into the Vista jail. The press release revealed that no deputies were injured on the scene.
