Socialist Medicine Ballyhooed

The National Doctors Tea Party held its “anti-ObamaCare” rally at Cancer Survivors Park off of North Harbor Drive on the afternoon of July 7. The event featured conservative speakers such as Sharron Angle, Roger Hedgecock, Sally Pipes, Joseph Farah, Nick Popaditch, Jane Orient, and Donna Campbell.

The event started at noon and was attended by a crowd of roughly 500 mostly white middle-aged and senior Americans, many of which held signs espousing anti-socialism and anti-Obama views.

Every so often, Dr. Ricky Lee Jackson (known in some circles as “the singing doctor”) would take to the podium and sing political rock tunes to a recorded backup band.

The running themes of the event seemed to be calls for the repeal of the Healthcare Reform Act and the firing of house speaker Nancy Pelosi. Not a lot of detailed positions were given, but all the speakers made it clear that anything other than a free-market model of healthcare system could be fairly categorized as “socialist medicine.” There was no opposing view presented (though some counter-protestors were in attendance).

The event ran smoothly from start to finish and was watched by a fair number of uniformed police.
