Big Iron

Chris and Becky Brown, owners of Oceanside’s Fire Water Saloon and Pier View Pub, are set to host downtown Oceanside’s Big Iron Music Festival, a ten-hour event boasting “babes, bands, beer, bikes, and booze.”

“The Big Iron Music Festival is gonna be two blocks of classic cars, motorcycles, live music, and scantily clad girls,” says Mona of Mama Mones Promotions, one of the event’s organizers. “The festival kicks off at 3 p.m. this Saturday, April 17, at 301 and 406 Pier View Way. We’ll have bands playing at Bub’s and DJs at Fire Water till close.… We’ll have girls from nearby gentlemen’s clubs doing a ‘pose and polish’ bike wash in the parking lot between the two bars and a pinup pageant at 8 p.m. with a $200 cash prize and a free professional photo shoot for the winner.”

As decadent as it may sound, the motives behind the event are environmental. “[Our] main goal is to clean up the beach,” says Mona. “The festival is a fundraiser. Alaskan Brewing Co. is one of our sponsors, and half of every Alaskan sale goes to Coastalcode.org [a charity dedicated to the cleanup and preservation of the Pacific Ocean].”

Other bars in the area, including the Haunted Head and Beachside Grill, will make their contribution to the cause by offering food and drink specials to anyone wearing a Big Iron Music Festival wristband.

“Anyone who makes a $10 donation gets a wristband that entitles them to night-long drink specials, a barbecue lunch, and entrance in a raffle for a hundred-dollar bar tab.”

Ten local bands are scheduled to perform on the Pier View Pub’s end of the event, including Counter Launch, Saints & Sinners, Being Jared, and the Honkys.
