Dog Gone Wild

On Friday afternoon, September 18, police responded to reports of a vicious dog running loose and biting someone in Pacific Beach. When police arrived at the parking lot on the corner of Ingraham and Garnet (in front of the Staples store), the dog jumped through the open window of a parked black Dodge Ram van. Hitched to the van was a 34-foot Avion “fifth wheel” camper.

The security guard at the San Diego Credit Union branch next door to the Staples reported that the van and trailer had been parked in the same spot for three weeks. Police tried unsuccessfully to subdue the dog, who remained in the van barking. Two other dogs could be heard barking from within the camper.

At about 4:00 p.m., two county animal-control officers arrived. They were able to capture the dog using a Ketch-all pole and transfer him to their truck. Police then had to break into the camper so that the officers could enter and check on the welfare of the other two dogs. Those dogs were also removed using Ketch-all poles. All three dogs appeared to this reporter to be healthy, well-cared-for German shepherds. The van and camper were gone from the parking lot by the following evening.
