Not in Kansas

At 2:00 p.m. on October 16, an impromptu protest and counterprotest took place on the corners of Park Boulevard and B Street, across from San Diego City College. Several congregants of a Kansas church had shown up to voice their opposition to the gay community, President Obama, and Jews. A crowd soon surrounded the protestors, who were singing off-color songs and indicting the president for his support of gay people and Jews.

When school let out for adjacent San Diego High students, the streets were flooded with thousands of people. Police soon arrived to monitor the events and nearly arrested several people, telling them to leave the area or they’d be taken away. Nobody was arrested.

Several TV news trucks were onsite to cover the activity. The protest carried on for nearly two hours, requiring police and newscasters to wait until the streets had been cleared so they could leave.
