Late-Night Oxycontin

The Rite Aid pharmacy located at 535 Robinson in Hillcrest was robbed early on December 15 by a man with a knife demanding narcotics. San Diego police responded to the pharmacy after a robbery was reported about 3:45 a.m.

An SDPD dispatcher told the units via a police radio frequency that the suspect was a Hispanic male in his 20s with a high-pitched voice. The subject was reported to have fled the scene with two bottles of Oxycontin.

A police unit searching the area for the perpetrator subsequently questioned a person matching the description. The officer told a dispatcher, “I have a subject matching the description, and he has Oxycontin on him.”

According to the officer, the subject he had detained told him, “I had a knife on me earlier, but I don’t know where it is,” and “The problem is with Rite Aid, not me.”

At about 4:40 a.m., police had the suspect stand up against the water machine in front of the building. The pharmacist who was sitting in a patrol car identified the suspect.
