Enter Scène Enterre

San Diego band Scène Enterre appeared out of nowhere, but in the past month, the duo of “jonny” and “n.r.” has made its presence known. Their first single, “Teenager,” a blown-out take on Beach Boys pop, has been lauded on blogs across the nation. As it’s one of my favorite songs, I had to attend the band’s inaugural show at the Tin Can Ale House August 18.

The band was sporting bleached blue tees and tight jeans. The first two songs they played were rough. In fact, it might have been the same song played twice. They were witty between songs, humble, so all was forgiven. “Teenager” was the fourth song of the set, and they nailed it. That’s when things really picked up on stage and in the room. They ended their show with a wall-of-noise psychedelic song, which was ambitious, impressive.

Despite early mistakes, which were understandable, considering this was their first show and they'd only been playing together for about a month, Scène Enterre came out on top. The drums were creative, the vocals on key, and the music was lively.
